No, seriously, Bernie Madoff: STFU

He’s at it again! According to an article on Gothamist, good ol’ Bernard Madoff — The Ponz — himself is keeping his voice in print (there’s gotta be a better way to word that), this time at his own expense! Bernie placed a collect call to a writer at New York magazine and took the opportunity to complain about his treatment by the media and the public at large:

Does anybody want to hear that I had a successful business and did all these wonderful things for the industry? And got all these awards? And so did my family? I did all of this during the legitimate years. No. You don’t read any of that.

Anyone care to field that one for him? No? OK, I’ll take care of it. You see, Mr. Madoff, in a word: NO. WE DON’T FUCKING CARE. You’re a criminal, you stole billions of dollars, you destroyed people’s livelihoods, and therefore you deserve to be vilified. Your years having a “successful business” mean dick to us, because you used the money and reputation you earned from that business to put yourself into a position to brazenly fleece people. So no, we don’t care. You get to spend the rest of your life in jail and be remembered as the dude who may or may not have destroyed the Mets franchise for good. You made your bed, now lie in it and quit being a baby. Do you see Michael Vick complaining? STFU.

Secondly, if you don’t like the way the media is portraying you, then STOP FUCKING TALKING TO THEM. What exactly is the man’s thought process here? He’s not going to change anyone’s mind; the public hates him because of his crimes. No amount of pleading collect calls to beat writers is going to change that. The best he can hope for is to be ignored and serve out his sentence in peace, and the best way to bring that about is to keep his mouth shut.

So, Bernie Madoff — seriously, for your own good as well as ours — STFU.
